This is the first edition of The Green Mountain Journal, a literary magazine that grew out of the Green Mountain Writer’s Conference, an annual gathering of writers working across the genres. Participants at the conference and its staff wrote most of the work you’ll read in this publication. Like the conference, the purpose of the magazine is to showcase prose and poetry at all levels of development, to provide a forum for new writers while also sharing the work of those who have been writing and publishing for years. Like the conference, the magazine also strives to acknowledge the importance of environment and place — not just in our daily lives but in our writing — and to give voice to those who struggle to understand and express the great and tiny miracles and challenges that daily life presents.
